SIGTUR celebrates the wonderful news that the neo-liberal Howard Government has been swept from office in the weekend election in Australia.

SIGTUR celebrates the wonderful news that the neo-liberal Howard Government has been swept from office in the weekend election in Australia. This Government was responsible for the introduction of some of the most anti-worker laws in the Western World.

Ironically they called the removal of almost all union rights and most workers rights - WORK CHOICES!

The Howard Government then spent millions of dollars advertising how wonderful work choices was for Australian workers, telling people they had never had it so good.

SIGTUR has been campaigning Internationally to put pressure on the Howard Government to remove these anti-worker laws -a short video of a SIGTUR protest in Thailand is included for your viewing pleasure. (It takes a little while to load please be patient)

Former Prime Minister, John Howard was also defeated in his own parliamentary seat. His harsh and brutal attacks on unions were met with grit and determination from workers. The Australian Council of Trade Unions ACTU mobilised thousands to campaign for the defeat of Howard and his right wing cronies.

Australia has become a fairer and better country, the incoming Rudd Labor Government has promised to tear up the "Work Choices" laws. Howard sought to divide workers, to demonise unions...Rudd has vowed to unite Australians.

Trivia: Howard becomes only the 2nd Prime Minister in Australia to lose his seat in an election. The other was Stanley Bruce in 192a9, ironically he was also thrown out because he took away workers rights! Long live workers of the world. Workers of the World Zindabad...Amandala
