Union Statement

The strike was mostly a snap decision. The union had complied with most of the legal procedures but had not taken the case to Arbitration - a requirement for a legal strike in Cambodia. So we were expecting an injunction from the court at any time - but this didn't happen (possibly because of the week-long national holiday).

These workers, represented by CLC affiliate, the Cambodian Food and Service Workers Federation (CFSWF), are demanding an increase in the minimum wage to $160 per month – a wage that will satisfy basic needs.

Workers and their representatives say that the strike will continue until their demand for $160 per month is met.
